SSIET Mooncake Celebration Special 2018

Updated: Sep 28, 2018

It may feel lonely for those of us who come from a far to study at Swinburne Sarawak. Sometimes, we still miss home or feel homesick.

However, my life changes after meeting with members and committees of SSIET.

During the committee meeting on 19 September 2018, our president suggests: why not we all hang up and visit Carpenter Street on 20 September 2018, since there is a Kuching Inter-Cultural Mooncake Festival. For me, it doesn't sound like a bad idea.

Six of us, me, Paul, Peter, Xin Hui, Edwin Bean, and Yu Cheng attended the night outing on that day. We had our dinner at McDonalds Plaza Merdeka. The food tasted so good when you were eating with people. Yummy...

After spending 45 minutes eating and chatting at McDonalds, we finally moved on to our destination, Carpenter Street. To be true, I seldom go to the town area especially with friends. And here we were, standing under the big gate of Carpenter Street.

Carpenter Street looked more alive at night with all the decorative lighting at night. The place was "packed like sardines in a can". There were lots of stalls at Carpenter Street. Some music performers were playing Chinese Orchestra.

After that, I had a chance to visit The Golden Bridge, also known as Darul Hana Bridge. It was my second time visited it. The bridge look prestigious at night. I heard rumor that the locals also refer the bridge as Lover Bridge, the locals believe that by walking through the bridge with your love one from beginning till the end and holding his/her hands, your relationship is going to last forever. This is why when you visit the bridge, you will see many couples walking back and forth at the bridge.

It was a good night for me. I could see that everyone was smiling back then when we departed. I hope there will be more activities like this in the future.
