On 21st of February 2019, Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus collaborated with Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn Campus (Australia) and Cincaria Sdn Bhd to organize a site visit. Cincaria Sdn Bhd is one of the companies that contract manufacturer electro mechanical in Penang. There was a total of 20 participants from multidisciplinary engineering courses. This site visit provided a golden opportunity for the students to learn about the manufacturing process of circuit board, SMT (Surface Mount Technology) process, assembly of electro-mechanical products and also occupational safety and health practiced in the company.

At 2:00 pm sharp, participants arrived at the lobby of the company and they were guided by Mr. Marco Wong, the Chief Executive Officer of Cincaria Sdn Bhd. Prior to entering the production line, participants were asked to wear anti-electrostatic clothing to ensure the safety of the participants.






Mr. Marco Wong gave a short presentation on the company overview. He explained the company history, mission, visions and core business of Cincaria Sdn Bhd. He requested the participants not to take any photos in the production line as the some of the processes were highly confidential. A short Q&A session was conducted before entering the production line.



At the first station, Mr. Marco Wong explained how the circuit boards were cut into sizes based on customers’ requests and requirements. At the second station, Mr. Marco Wong explained how the circuit boards were cleaned and how the electronic components were mounted onto the circuit boards through SMT (Surface Mount Technology). Then, Mr. Marco showed how the circuit boards were checked using visual inspection machine (machine vision) before the participants went to the assembly line / assembly department.


A token of appreciation was presented to Mr. Marco Wong, by Dr. Chua, SSIET main advisor.

On 19 February 2019, Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus collaborated with Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn Campus, Melbourne and Kim Hin Industry Berhad to organize a Site Visit to Kim Hin Industry Berhad, one of the leading manufacturers of ceramic floors and tiles. The site visit was held to provide an opportunity for the students to understand the overall manufacturing process the company's products, the company's history, and experience the organisational culture of the manufacturing industry.


At 2pm, the participants gathered at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus. After reporting their attendance, the participants began their journey to Kim Hin via bus. After arriving at Kim Hin Industry Berhad, the participants were greeted by Madam Phang, the Human Resources Officer of Kim Hin Industry Berhad. The participants were led to a conference room, where the manager of Kim Hin gave a presentation on the company overview which included the company history, the manufacturing process of tiles and ceramic floors.



With all the relevant knowledge provided, it was time for some in-depth exposure, by taking the participants on a tour around the factory. Before proceeding, for a place that prioritizes safety, all participants including the company workers were each given a safety vest, face mask and helmet (safety is number one priority, amirite?).



In the tour, participants were given an opportunity to view the range of final products of manufacturing at the Kim Hin showroom. Mdm Phang guided the participants while explaining to them the manufacturing process of the different tiles in the factory. After a long tour, the participants gathered at the main entrance and took a group photo, while presenting a plaque to for the company as a token of appreciation for making this site visit possible.

Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus organised a site visit at Master-Pack (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd on 19th February 2019. The visit was a collaboration event with Swinburne Melbourne and Master-pack. The visit focus on the operations of the company as well as occupational health and safety. 20 participants from Swinburne Sarawak and Swinburne Melbourne attended this visit. The participants were accompanied by Deputy Head of School – Engineering, Dr Chua Hong Siang and Senior Lecturer, Dr. Ismat Hijazin. The visit was to ensure students get as much industry exposure as possible during their studies. During the trip, the students learned about different type of paperboard.


Upon arrival, Mr.Vincent Ting, Master-Pack General Manager led the participants to a meeting room and gave a welcoming speech. He then introduced the company to the participants. The event continued with Catherine Voon, Senior of Human Resource Department by giving a speech regarding the Occupational Health and Safety practiced by the company.

The presentation followed by the Store and Logistic Officer, briefing on the type of Raw Materials to manufacture the paperboard. Then, Mr Fong Yih Haur from QC Department, briefed the participants on the type of testing used to test the strength of the paperboard. Afterwards, Mrs Wong from the Production Department briefed us about the operations of the manufacturing process, challenges that paper industries are

having and the software that Master-Pack are using. Participants were given a pair of ear pieces and safety briefing by the facilitators before entering the production factory. They were given an opportunity to view the productions of the paperboard.


In the end, a plaque was presented by Dr. Chua as a token of appreciation to Mr Vincent Ting and his teams.
