Official Rules

 
A. Eligibility
  • You are required to be a student studying at secondary school or equivalent level at Sarawak State to participate in Faraday Challenge.

  • A team should comprise 5 students.

  • Team members must be from the same school.

B. Registration Fee

The Faraday Challenge is delivered free of charge.

​

C. Registration Link

You can do online registration at http://bit.ly/IETFaradayMalaysia or fill up the offline registration form and email back to us at ietinswinburne@gmail.com. Registration closed on 12 June 2019.

D. Food and Beverages

Lunch will be provided free.

​

E. Dress Code

You are required to wear school uniform and keep your appearance neat and tidy on the Faraday Challenge Day.

F. Competition
  • The theme of Faraday Challenge 2019 is Smarter Home Smarter Living.

  • You and your team are required to design/develop a system/product using Maker UNO

       development kit provided by us during the Faraday Challenge Day.

  • You and your team will be provided a technical handbook including step-by-step tutorial on how to develop a system using Maker UNO prior one week of the competition.

  • You and your team are required to bring at least one laptop to do coding tasks and preparing presentation slides.

  • The requirement and specification of the product, including the judging criteria will be released during the competition.

  • We will give each team a certain amount of Faraday Points to purchase all essential materials and electronic components that are required to develop your product. The list of available materials will also be released during the competition.

  • You and your team are required to prepare a presentation slide and demonstrate your product to the judges at last stage of the competition.

  • The decision of the judges is final.

  • Please refer to the Schedule for the competition agenda.

G. During Competition

 

  • Each team can only pitch/present for 4 minutes.

  • There will be a 3 minutes Question and Answers session by the judges. 

  • The total duration for each team to present and answer the Q&A is 6 minutes.

  • The timekeeper will ring the bell based on the minutes passed by:

    • The bell will ring first when two minutes had passed. 

    • On the fourth minutes, the bell will ring twice. The students have to stop their pitching and move on to the Q&A session by the judges.

    • When the timer reaches 5 minutes, the bell will ring again indicates only left one minute for the judges to wrap out their Q&A session.

    • On the sixth minutes, the bell will ring thrice and the judges will move on to another booth.

H. Risk Assessment

 

Safety of participants is our main concern in this competition. We are taking a lot of control measures to reduce the risk.

 

  • All electrical equipment is low voltage to prevent electric shock.

  • There is possibility of burns when connecting and disconnecting components. Thus, all students will receive a briefing about the correct use of electrical components to avoid short circuit.

  • We will advise students about safe working practices on basic use of hand tools, e.g. screwdrivers, scissors, staples etc. to avoid the risk of cutting or abrasion.

  • Extension cables will lead to the risk of tripping. We will ensure that extension cables are not extended across the floor where students will be walking.

I. Prizes

 

  • First Prize         : RM 300, Trophy, Gold Medals and Certificates of Achievement

  • 1st Runner-up  : RM 200, Trophy, Silver Medals and Certificates of Achievement

  • 2nd  Runner-up  : RM 100, Trophy, Bronze Medals and Certificates of Achievement

  • Consolation : Certificates of Achievement

 

All participants will receive a certificate of participation after completing of challenge. The top 2 teams will be invited to National Round in August and compete for a chance to represent Malaysia in Regional Level Faraday Challenge.

By entering this competition, you agree:

 

  • To abide by the Official Rules

  • That IET’s decisions will be final and binding on all matters related to this competition

  • That, by accepting a prize, IET may use your proper name and photo posted online or in any other media which in connection with this competition, without payment or compensation to you, except where prohibited by law.
