On the 22nd of May 2017, SSIET organised a talk on how to solve engineering problems by using theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ). The speaker is Professor Dr Yip Mum Wai who is a certified TRIZ instructor also he is the Dean of Faculty of Engineering at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College. The activities took place as follow:
9:20AM
Organising committees arrive 10 minutes earlier to prepare the venue and making sure the multimedia devices are working properly.
9:30AM
Participants began to arrive and attendance were taken. Speaker, Professor Dr Yip Mum Wai arrived with the club advisor, Dr Chua and followed by other lecturers.
9:35AM
Professor Dr Yip Mum Wai began the talk with self-introduction and introduce the audience on the history of TRIZ which was discovered and simplified in Russia. He also mentioned that there are 5 levels of TRIZ which very few have made it to level 5.
10:00AM
The speaker then explained how to utilise TRIZ level 1 which uses a problem solving matrix table called the inventive principles. He then explains how this method solved many problems such as innovation ideas, technical problems in production companies, and problems faced by automotive industries.
11:00AM
The talk ends and proceed with a Q&A session where some audience voiced their doubts on TRIZ levels and the benefits of learning TRIZ.
