Professional Talk on Project Management 2018

Organizing Chairperson: Alex Liew Jia Cheng

Date & Time: 11 May 2018, 3:30p.m.-5:30p.m.

Venue: G407, Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus

Participants: 12 IET members, 4 non-members.

Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus (SSIET) had successfully organized Professional Talk on project Management 2018 on 11 May 2018. This talk successfully exposed students and adults to the importance of Synchro 4D. Especially how Synchro 4D easily overcome problems arises from traditional meeting with its visualization advantages.

Following shows the activities conducted during event.

3:15 p.m.

Committees had arrived and set up the venue, G407. Early participants have arrived as well, and registered for attendance.

3:30 p.m.

Participants entered the venue and registered for the attendance.

3:40 p.m.

Mr. Andy Tiong, Senior Project Planning Consultant from PCSS Consultancy Sdn. Dhd. with double Bachelor Degree holder in Mechanical and Manufacturing, as well as more than 10 years of experience in project management industry, has arrived. Organizing Chairperson, Alex Liew has given his welcoming speech, with great applauds from participants.

4:00 p.m.

Mr. Andy Tiong first given the introductory talk on project management. Basically, he talked about how project management has a big impact on engineering society. He compared the traditional methods and current methods proven useful through project management.

Then, he emphasized on the importance of project management. Project management increases profit. Without project management, the situation would be chaotic and there will be big losses. Hence, project management enabled easier analysis of any situations as well as gaining profits, reducing losses. He mentioned about BIM (Building Information Modelling) as well as how it was popular, very useful for all engineers.

Finally, he introduced Synchro 4D, a powerful virtual construction software that enables the creation, analysis, and planning of projects on a visual interface. To be able to visualize how important was the delay of a project was better than assuming the current stages of any project. The problem with projects nowadays was that many of them are badly managed as well as badly visualized. This lead to unnecessary losses.

Synchro 4D easily solved the problems by integrating multiple software in one platforms. For example, a schedule could be synchronized with 3D model to produce a time-lapse of said model. The important things were you, as a user could easily change the schedule as Synchro 4D performs dynamically up to the point you could easily remove or add the changes done to the schedule. Be it schedule for construction or shipping, it could produce an accurate 3D model. Synchro 4D could calculate the costs and resources needed as well. Soon, the software might as well be able to simulate the effects of weather on the buildings but that requires extensive programming.

5:50 p.m.

End of professional talk. Appreciation Plate was given to Mr. Andy Tiong as well as a group photo was taken.
