Site Visit to RTM Sarawak

On the 21st of September 2016, SSIET organized a site visit to RTM Sarawak with a total number of 15 participants. The objective of the site visit is to provide members of IET On Campus and students from Swinburne University an opportunity to increase their knowledge about the Radio and Television Broadcasting. The event started at 2:00pm, and ended at 5.00pm. Happenings for the event are as follows:

2:00 pm

Participants gathered at Block A’s lobby. Each participant is asked to fill indemnity form and attendance list.

2:10 am

Participants departed from Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus by bus.

2:30 pm

Arrival at RTM Sarawak.

2:35 pm

Mr. Mustapa bin Kipli, a RTM public relation officer gave a welcoming speech. He made a short introduction about RTM and giving out souvenir at the same time. RTM is located about 5km away from Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak. It is one of the radio and television broadcast in Kuching. Mr. Mustapa also explained that the radio station was established in 7 June 1954. It had changed its name form Radio Sarawak to Radio Malaysia Sarawak.

2:45 am

Mr. Mustapa led the participants to the Television broadcast studio to further explain more about how a television show is recorded inside the studio. He introduced the different category of equipment including lightings, audio, and camera inside the studio. He also explained that they will have at least an engineer for every equipment category used.

3:00 pm

Participants were brought to the MCR (Main Control Room) where radio and television show will be satellite and to be controlled here. Mr. Mustapa explained that the satellite operation centre will received TV1 and TV2 channel form Kuala Lumpur. Besides, it will be receiving and transmitting radio channel too.

3:15 pm

Participants were also brought to the studio where live radio will be recorded and aired. Mr. Venu, deejay for RED FM welcomes us and introduces the equipment used in the live studio. He explained that they will be using MTS (Malcom Technical Support) which will be operating by touch screen. He also put one of our IET member, Jeremy on air with a short interview session.

3:45 pm

Mr. Mustapa led the participants to the Studio Control Room (SCR) and there we met Mr. Ahmad Razzaly, the head engineer, also the supervisor of control room. Mr. Ahmad explained all equipment in the control room. He also led the participants to the live show recording room and also make-up room.

4:15 pm

Appreciation gift was given to Mr. Ahmad by OC, Mr. Wong Yeng Chien. Group photos with Mr. Ahmad were taken.

4:30 pm

Participants departed from RTM Sarawak to Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus.

4:50 pm

Arrival at Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus.
