Site Visit to Kuching Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant

On 19th April 2017, SSIET has organized and academic site visit to Kuching Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant with a total number of 34 participants. This site visit aims to expose participants to practical engineering world while giving participants understanding on the entire process of centralized wastewater treatment system. The site visit is priority for the students who are taking the unit of “Wastewater Engineering” in Swinburne Sarawak. The lecturer of the unit, Dr. Matthew will be participating the site visit. The event started at 1.30 p.m. and ended at 5.00 p.m.


Happenings for the event are as follows:

1:00 pm

Participants gathered at Block A’s lobby. Each participant is asked to fill indemnity form and attendance list. Payment were made at the same time.

1:35 pm

Participants departed from Swinburne University of Technology, Sarawak Campus by bus.

2:00 pm

Arrival at Kuching Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant. All the participants were being leaded by the in charge officers to a meeting room. All the participant was taking a short break and settle down themselves in the meeting room.

2:30 pm

Assistant director of treatment plant, Mr. Jamey Ngedat gave a welcoming speech to all the participants. The event proceeded with self-introduction between participants and treatment plant staff. Then, the session continued by briefing on the entire processes and the significance impacts of Kuching centralized wastewater treatment system to the Kuching city. Besides, he also briefs them about the future development of the treatment plant. For instance, the new phase of treatment plant will be undergoing construction very soon. The briefing was end with a QNA session. Mr. Jamey was willing to answer all the doubt from the participants.

3.30 pm

All the participants were taking a short break before heading for a tour to entire treatment plant.

3:40 pm

Tour to centralized wastewater treatment plant. Mr. Jamey and his staff were leading the participants to visit each and every process in the treatment plant. First, the participants were visiting to the pump station for the entire plant. Then followed by the control room. The purpose of the control room is to control and monitor the parameters of the aeration tank. It can be considered as the ‘heart’ of the entire treatment plant said by Mr. Jamey. After that, the participants were visiting to the aeration tank, distribution tank, second clarifier tanks and lastly, sludge treatment system. The officers of the treatment plant and trip advisor, Dr. Matthew were trying to explain every single process to the participants throughout the entire tour. The tour was end at 4.15pm.

4:15pm

Group photo were taken and appreciation plaque were given by trip advisor, Dr. Matthew to Kuching Centralized Wastewater Treatment Plant represented by Mr. Jamey.

5.00pm

Arrival at Swinburne Sarawak.
