Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus organised a site visit to Department of Civil Aviation Kuching (DCA). Department of Civil Aviation is a government agency under the Ministry of Department was incorporated into a statutory body known as Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia.
There were total number of 29 participants from various background field of Engineering, Business, Design and Computing. The participants were accompanied by Dr. Mark Tee Kit Tsun, from Faculty of Engineering, Computing and Science. The visit exposed participants to various operating equipment in the Control Tower.
Participants were gathered at Lobby, Block A of Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus. They were asked to fill the indemnity form before departed from Swinburne Sarawak. Upon arrival, participants were guided by Mr. Luqman. He then gave a welcoming speech.
Participants were divided into 2 groups due to overwhelming number of participants. Each group was directed to visit different places at one time. Participants visited the Air Traffic Control Center Room (ATCC) and Control Tower.
ATCC inspects all air traffic control. Air traffic controllers issue clearances and instructions for airborne aircraft, and pilots are required to comply with these instructions.
The Control Tower provides visual observation on things happening on the airstrip. Air traffic controllers in the Control Tower are responsible for the separation and efficient movement of aircraft and vehicles operating on the taxiways and runways of the airport itself, and aircraft in the air near the airport.
After the visit, participants were gathered at the main entrance of the DCA. The organising chairperson, Mr. Jehovah presented a plague as a token of appreciation to Mr. Luqman.
