On the 12th of November 2016, SSIET co-organised talks regarding professional registration for engineers and low voltage short circuit design with IEM and YPS (IET Malaysia Network) in Swinburne Sarawak. All SSIET committees were encouraged to join this talk. The event started at 9:00am and ended at 4:00pm. Happenings for the events are as follows:

8:30 am

SSIET committees and other participants arrived at G813 to register their attendance. The speakers (Ir. Dr. Matthew Teow, Mr. Hiew Thian Wai and Ir. Tay Siang Hui) then arrived along with YPS committees.

9:00 am

Ir. Dr. Matthew Teow (Chairman of IET Malaysia Network) started his speech on the importance of professional registration for engineers and their careers. After that, Ir. Dr. Matthew advised participants with the steps to register themselves as a Chartered Engineer under IET if they fulfil the requirements. Participants were taught how to fill in application form with correct/real details and the dos and don’ts during formal presentation. Lastly, Ir. Dr. Matthew distributed some IET Chartered Engineer registration form samples to the audience.

12:30 pm

Speakers and participants were invited to have their lunch and communicated among each other.

1:30 pm

Mr. Hiew Than Wei started his speech on some popular types of electrical machines on the market these few years. Mr. Hiew also talked about some considerations in designing a well-performing machine. For example, low inrush current with appropriate torque.

2:30 pm

Ir. Tay Siang Hui from Mikro talked about some situations which require low voltage short circuit design along with the design considerations. Ir. Tay also briefed participants about safety precautions to prevent the occurrence of short circuits onsite.

4:00 pm

End of programme. Participants were invited to enjoy the refreshments prepared.
