On the 25th February, Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus collaborated with Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn Campus and Materialise Sdn Bhd to organize a site visit to Materialise in Petaling Jaya. The site visit begun with a briefing by Ms. Jacy Ong and ended with a tour of the factory processes. Here, participants learnt a lot about the wonders of 3D printing and its applications in the medical field as well as prototypes. Through the briefing participants also came to understand the challenges they face and how they intend to overcome them.
Upon arrival, the representative from Materialise guided us to the meeting room. She briefed us about what Materialise really does, which is using 3D printing to make projects rather than making the 3D printers. We learnt how they apply 3D building in building specific lattices as well as use it in the medical field and as prototypes.
After that, participants were guided to the 3D printing lab. Participants were given the opportunity to view Materialise’s 3D printers and had a Q&A session with their head development engineer.
The trip was concluded with a group photo as well as presenting a token of our appreciation to Ms. Jacy Ong.
