Swinburne Sarawak IET On Campus (SSIET) had organized a site visit to ViTrox Corporation Berhad. This is an international collaboration with Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, Australia) and ViTrox Corporation Berhad. It was a technical site visit aimed to expose the participants to the technical aspects, company structure and culture, health and safety, as well as internship and career opportunities. It consisted of 2 advisors, from Swinburne Melbourne and Swinburne Sarawak, 1 YPS member, and students from various countries including Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Malaysia.
The participants arrived at ViTrox Corporation Berhad at 8.45 am. Upon arrival, they were greeted by HR personnel of the company, Mr. Ng Kee Hung. He first talked about some of the cultures of the company. One aspect was cleaning one’s shoes using a dedicated machine before entering the premises, which he guided the participants to do so. Other aspects included the use of company-provided white sandals during work, which is mandatory for the employees, free vegetarian lunch, the “Second Home” concept, and recreational clubs.
The manager of People Management Department, Ms. Yeoh Siew Eng guided the participants to a conference room. She introduced the vision, mission, history, and business nature of the company. The company was established by the current CEO, Mr. Chu Jenn Weng, who got interested in machine vision technologies back in his college years. The company first started with an office the size of a small living room, before it expanded, and its location moved several times. The most recent transition was moving to Campus 2.0 in Batu Kawan from Campus 1.0 in Bayan Lepas. The company specializes in designing and developing automated vision inspection system and equipment testers for the semiconductor and electronic packaging industries as well as electronic communications equipment.
Among the participants, there were two ex-interns of ViTrox Corporation Berhad, namely Peter Ling and Kok Zhen Hui. Both of them shared about their experiences at the company, which were pleasant and rewarding.
Then, the participants were taken on a campus tour, whereby they visited the newly-constructed premises. The areas include ViTrox’s own library, café, music room, gym and recreational facilities, R&D offices and production floors. The participants witnessed the demonstrations of the amazing machines produced by the company.
The SSIET team requested for feedback from the participants and the company regarding the event. Besides, the SSIET team had taken a short feedback video, whereby an employee of the People Management Department, Mr. Fredaus Khor expressed his gratitude and complemented the organizing committee for the good work. Everything was smooth and well-organized, based on the feedback.
