A Look at Coal Power Generation || Site Visit - Sejingkat Coal Power Plant

On 24 October 2018, SSIET's Jehovah Yii organized a site visit to Sejingkat Power Corporation Sdn Bhd, a site for coal power generation. This site visit is carried out in collaboration with Dr. Jubaer Ahmed and his students of the unit EEE30005 Electrical Integrated Design Project. The objective of the site visit was to expose these students to the whole power generation process with coal-processing, which was in line with what they were learning in their unit.

After a 40-minute bus ride, the students and lecturers reached the site, and was greeted by Performance Engineer, Mr Nazrin bin Ali Hossien. Mr. Nazrin gave a brief presentation on the company history, current developments and achievements, along with the process of coal power generation. A Q&A session was held to clarify any doubts, while giving everyone an idea of what to expect inside the plant.

After that, the group was led by Mr. Stanley, and all headed into the site itself after a short briefing on safety. Divided into groups, everyone was led into different sections of the plant, while the employees provided explanations and Q&A at different stations of the plant. The Coal Storage was where coal was crushed and stored, the Coal Processing Site houses the machinery for power generation, and Central Control Room (CCR), was a place where engineers observed and performed continuous monitoring of the machines 24/7.

After visiting all the important stations in the plant, everyone headed to the lobby for a rest and a debriefing session by the employees. After giving the closing remarks and a group photo, everyone headed back to the bus to return back to campus.

To conclude, I would like to thank Jehovah Yii and other co-organizers for planning this event and making it a success, and our sincere gratitude to Sejingkat Power Corporation Sdn Bhd. for approving this event and passing their knowledge to our students and lecturers.
